Training Workshop in Energy Statistics : Data Collection, Construction of National Energy Balancesand Calculation of CO2 emissions

Douala, Cameroon- 04 July 2017: The African Energy Commission (AFREC) in collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Ministry of Water and Energy of Cameroon organized training workshop on "Energy Statistics, Energy Data collections and Construction of National Energy Balance".

Mr. Abdoulaye OUEDDO, Consultant on Energy Information System and Database the representative of the Interim Executive Director of the African Energy Commission (AFREC) thanks the government of Republic of Cameroon for hosting this workshop and reiterated the importance of the training workshop to the focal points to know how to build the Energy Balance and to calculate the Carbone dioxide emission. Twenty Eight African Experts from the Central, Northern and western African Countries attending the training.

Mr. OUEDDO, highlighted some issues concerning the energy poverty and renewable energy resources in the continent and the importance to exploit the huge renewable energy potential in the continent to increase the percentage of the energy access in the African continent.

Mr. Emmanouil CHRISTINAKIS, Head of Delegation of the team of the International Energy Agency (IEA) thanked AFREC for its invaluable work and expressed the continued support of the IEA to these training workshops.

Mr. CHRISTINAKIS, stressed on the importance of harmonization and cooperation both at national and international level and highlighted the essential role of the energy statistics to develop sound energy policies.

Mr. NOA AVELE Marcellin Armel, Regional Delegate the representative of H.E. Dr BASILE ATANGANA KOUNA, Minister of Water and Energy of the Republic of Cameroon highlighted the importance of the energy statistics for development of African energy resources and appreciated the collaboration with AFREC in the implementation of the AFREC energy programme.

Mr. NOA AVELE, also highlighted the importance of the energy statistics for attracting the private sector to invest at the African energy sector and announced at the end of the opening session that the workshop is officially opened.
