Workshop Training on Data Collection and Creation of the African Energy Efficiency Indicators Database
Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco | 05 - 07 December 2017
Casablanca, Kingdom of Morocco 05 December 2017: The African Energy Commission (AFREC) in collaboration with the International Energy Agency (IEA) and Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development. of Morocco organized training workshop on "Data Collection and Creation of the African Energy Efficiency Indicators Database ".

Mr. Abdoulaye OUEDDO, Consultant on Energy Information System and Database the representative of Mr. Atef Marzouk, the Interim Executive Director of the African Energy Commission (AFREC) thanks the government of Kingdom of Morocco for hosting this workshop and reiterated the importance of the training workshop to the New focal points to know how to collect the African Energy Efficiency Indicators Data on Residential sector and Creation of African Energy Efficiency Database.

Mr. Abdoulaye OUEDDO, highlighted the objectives of the training:
To understand the importance of energy efficiency as a key component of any energy policy;
Train participants in the Energy Efficiency Indicators data collection questionnaire on Residential sector;
Formulate suggestions and recommendations in order to finalize the questionnaire and validate it.

Mrs. QUADRELLI ROBERTA, the representative of the International Energy Agency (IEA), thanked the government of Kingdom of Morocco and AFREC for their invaluable work and expressed the continued support of the IEA to the development of national energy statistics systems across the region. She highlighted that AFREC and the IEA have been working together for long time and they have an excellent cooperation on energy statistics.

Mrs. QUADRELLI outlined the benefits of energy efficiency policies - which in Africa are so much linked to development. She highlighted the importance of monitoring energy efficiency trends through better and more disaggregated data in order to inform analysis and policymaking in this area. As the new ambition to develop energy efficiency data and indicators poses some challenges, all organizations and countries need to collaborate to optimize their data collection work; and all parties are encouraged to share their experience for the benefit of countries first, and of the broader international community working on energy efficiency.
Mrs. Acha LAABDAOUI the representative of Ministry of Energy, Mines and Sustainable Development of Kingdom of Morocco thanked AFREC to choose Morocco to host this important workshop on Energy Efficiency. She highlighted the importance of the energy statistics for development of African energy resources and she says Morocco will share their experience on Energy Efficiency and will share all Energy Data.

Mrs. Acha LAABDAOUI, also highlighted the importance of the energy efficiency in his country and advantage of this technology in the residential and announced at the end of the opening session that the workshop is officially opened
